Invest in the Future of CDS
For over 35 years now the Community Development Society has consistently supported community developers across the U.S. , Canada , and in many other nations around the world. We think of CDS as our professional home. It has provided venues for sharing best practices and new knowledge through its conferences, publications, and web site. It has created a sense of place for CD professionals in many disciplines to network with one another.
Over the years our membership has been the key to maintaining and modernizing this “home of CD,” first built by the first generation of CD professionals in the late ‘60's. They included some of the best and brightest in the profession, such as Dwayne Gibson, Marie Arnot, Don Littrell, Ron Shaffer, and George Nickolaus. Now we in CDS who were schooled by these fathers and mothers of the field are nearing retirement ourselves, and our organization is in its third generation. We look to this next generation and their energy and ideas for keeping CDS relevant to the current and future needs of the profession.
In addition to direct participation in CDS, another important way we can invest in our future as a professional organization is to support the CDS Endowment – a collection of funds whose earnings are dedicated to supporting excellence in our conferences, educational materials, scholarship support, and multiculturalism. Since its establishment just three years ago, our members have generously contributed over $65,000 to the Endowment. Our short-term goal is to reach the $100,000 mark, which will place us in a good position to approach major funders for their support. We can then make even bigger strides towards a fund that will generate significant earnings we can devote to the future of CDS.
We invite you to make an investment in the future of CDS by donating at least $100 over the next year to the Endowment of the Community Development Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
