Community Development Institute (CDI) East Report
The Community Development Institute (CDI) East finished its fourth year and graduated its second class at the end of September.
A total of 64 students attended the week-long institute in Charleston, W.Va. This included 10 students who completed their third and final year of studies. There were also 33 students beginning the curriculum and 21 students in year two of their studies.
The students primarily from West Virginia with more than half (28) of the Mountain State's 55 counties having at least one participant. Attendees also hailed from Ohio, Minnesota, South Carolina and Florida. Over 30 speakers made presentations to the students on a variety of subjects in or related to the field of community development.
The CDI East is one of five institutes held throughout the country. This series of three week-long training programs was created in 1987. They are designed to enhance the leadership and management capabilities of those individuals responsible for developing our communities. CDI is endorsed by the International Community Development Council (ICDC) and is a principal component for the newly-renamed Certified Community and Economic Developer (CCED) certification.

- Feb. 27 - March 3, 2006, Texas Community Development Institute, The Woodlands, Texas
- July 16 - 23, 2006, Community Development Institute – Northwest, Boise, Idaho
- July 31 - Aug. 4 2006, Arkansas Community Development Institute, Conway , Ark.
- Aug. 15 - 19, 2006, Community Development Institute - Midwest, Springfield, Ill.
- Sept. 25 - 29, 2006 (tentative), Community Development Institute – East, Charleston, W. Va.
